  • Defective PTT relay vs Tilt Limit Switch

I recently experienced a tilt up problem on my 2005 DF140. All factors indicated that the PTT relay was the problem as I could cross wire the up switch to the down relay and the outdrive would go up. Purchased and installed a new relay and had the same problem!!!

Further research found that if the Tilt Limit Switch is defective, the up relay will not operate. Turns out that there was a broken wire on one lead to the tilt switch. Also found out that the limit switch isn't even needed on my boat as the engine doesn't rise enough to cause any problem. I could have just jumped across the lead to the tilt switch and eliminated my problem.

If experiencing a PTT relay problem, you may want to check out the trim limit switch first.

that's good info and also a very very common issue that no manual seams to tell you about, for whatever reason, but if the trim up doesn't work its the trim down relay that is bad and if the trim down doesn't work they you need to replace the trim up relay.

they cross over and the way they are wired it is actually the other relay that powers it
