  • smis gauge on an 05'

thinking about installing a smis gauge on an 05' df250. do these gauges work well on the older suzuki's I had one on a 07' 300 and it was a great tool to monitor fuel consumption and consolidate to one gauge.

Yes, they will work just as well.

There are a few bits of info that the 300 displays that the 250 doesnt, water pressure and water speed come to mind, but all other engine data will come thru.

Just make sure that the Suzuki engine interface cable you use is running V 2.8.0 software and once installed, be sure to configure thru the SMIS the correct engine year and horsepower.

Be particularly aware that the 2005 model engines are not properly compatible with the recently superceded V 2.7.0 interface cable software, will not give you correct fuel flow data, so double check with the cable supplier that it has V2.8.0 installed and you should be right.

I gotcha good, thanks for the heads up. Fuel consumption is the primary reason for using the smis gauges

So those smis kits available for around 400 bucks cover the install do you know if an 05 needs any special adapters in addition

Not sure what kits you are referring to? If it is this one:

It seems to have everything except the adapter cable. With a 2005 engine you will be connecting to the SDS port on the engine so you will need a "reverse K8" adapter cable.

installed the smis gauge and suzuki engine interface, dealer i purchased from insisted it had the latest software, sure enough after first start up got erratic fuel flow data realized i had software v2.7. So i updated to v2.8 through my hds unit now fuel flow is closer to being right but still off, reading 4.5 gph at idle. was saying 140gph at idle with v2.7. is there anything else that can make the fuel flow work on v2.8? or do i need an older version? trim also seems to jump around a bit also, all other functions seem to work fine though.

Hmmmmm, some people have got good results with V 2.8 on earlier engines, but seems not all the time.

Pm me with your private email address and i will send you V 2.30 which SHOULD (with some luck) give you the results you are looking for.

You will have to config it with the hp and year details again once installed.

                Fingers crossed!
