I just purchased a 1984 Suzuki DT60. Compression on both cylinders was 120. The seller had it on a 20 ft Sea Ark so we could take it out for a spin. Ran great. He also had a video of it doing 30 mph on his GPS. We took it off and laid it in the back of my pickup on a big doggie bed and strapped it down for the 4 hour ride home. Got it on and hooked up and it has no power. 15 mph was the fastest I could get it. Put new plugs in. Any ideas?

I sure hope it's something simple. I did take the carbs apart and cleaned out the jets but I never touched the needle valve. Duh I will do it again. I do not know if the oil injection is working. I have premixed my gas for now until I can get that checked out. If the oil injection is NOT working or the oil sensor, would that cause the motor to run at half power?

IF YOU BENT THE SHIFT LINKAGE SO IT THINKS ITS IN NEUTRAL IT COULD BUT IM SURE YOU WOULD NOTICE SHIFTING ISSUES WITH THAT
(sorry, caps lock lol)
if the neutral switch itself was bad or not getting a good connection that could be more likely the cause.

im not that familiar with the 2 strokes but its possible if the oil tank had oil in it and you had mixed oil in the gas too but that would be a simple plug cleaning or replacement fix if that's what it is
have you bypassed the neutral switch and tested the motor without it?
have you called the previous owner and asked if he ever had any issues like this with it? he may not be truthful about it even if he did but it couldn't hurt to ask
you could be the most unlucky person in the world and something broke on the test run when you bought it so redo your compression tests againLast edited by keakar; 06-17-2014, 09:04 AM.

Well I would like to thank everybody who helped me. After consulting with the previous owner I determined the motor did not come off a pontoon as I thought but a 16 ft bass boat. That being said, after I got the tach hooked up, bought a new prop that was the right one for the pontoon, it runs great. Tach is running at 5200, getting 22 mph. Now I just need to make sure the oil injection is working properly. Thanks again. Dave
