  • CR question

Hello everyone. I have a question which might have been asked by many, but since i am new to the fourm i thought asking would be better.

I just replaced my blown 97 DT150 with another thats working. I removed the lower unit and installed my CR lower unit. My issue is now the CR lower unit is not counter rotating like it was with the other unit. Is this an easy fix?

    Thank you in advance

AFAIK the crankshafts always turn the same way so engines don't run in different directions. the change is made in the lower units where the gears swap which side of the gear cluster they connect to in order to turn in different directions.

but I don't know a lot about CR setups and this is just what I picked up reading forums

This is the part that is really confusing is it was turning counter before i swapped power heads and now its not.

Is there a linkage that need to be changed or something?

I don't know anything about C/R either, but the parts lists don't show a '97 DT150, only '98. And in the parts diagram for the '98 http://http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Suzuki/Outboard/1998/DT150/CLUTCH%20SHAFT/parts.html
it does show a different clutch shaft for the C/R model (item #3). Other than the transmission itself, that's the only difference that I see.

            counter rotation...

From the looks of the parts page Harper has provided Suzuki may only be turning the CR prop in reverse instead of changing the gears in the Trans... My best guess is take the clutch rod assy off your old motor and swap with this motor. That looks like all you need to do.
            Good luck.

Actually, the tranny gear pack does have a different part # for the C/R than does the standard rotation model, but there's no reason to think that the tranny itself is not a C/R tranny, since it came off his old C/R motor. That's why I pointed to the clutch shaft.

Thanks all, I will look into the advice. I surely hope it helps because running 2 RH engines is really tough on the steering but i gained 3mph cruise.

                  Breif update and many thanks.

I removed the swapped the clutch rod lever, the clutch lever and the clutch shaft from the blown engine to the running. After physically viewing them they are all set on opposite ends and i never realized. I really thought the suzuki dealers, mechanics and parts stores i called new almost everything. According to them the only thing to be swapped is the lower unit. That might be the case if someone had changed the gears inside to do the opposite but since mine was a 150G the other components had to be changed as well. I will update again once i get it running again. Yeah..... now it wont start. fix 1 and break another.

                    You Guys Rock.

Success is the word for the day. You guys are awesome. None of the mechanics or dealers pointed this out to me unless they wanted me to bring it to them so they could do the same and charge the he77 out of me. Shame on them.

glad you got it sorted out and yes, often the guys at the shop wont know a lot about "special" application stuff like CR setup questions that they don't deal with on a daily basis.

the majority of shops, most of what they do is put things back the way they were without paying too close attention as to why things are hooked up the way they are
