I notice that the cap for the oil tank on my oil injection 9.9 doesn't seal properly. Whenever I tilt the engine up on the transom to it highest point (to clear bottom at the boat launch), oil leaks out the top of the cap and into the cowl. Essentially, if I tilt the engine enough so the oil in the canister reaches the cap, it leaks out significantly. If I left the boat on the shore with the motor tilted up for example, I'd probably lose most of the oil after an hour.
I've checked the cap and it looks fine to me, but I notice on it and any parts manual there is no sign of a o-ring, and the cap doesn't screw on - it just simply PLUGS into the canister. It fits snug, but clearly isn't air tight.
Not being familiar with oil injector engines from Suzuki, is this normal? I was wondering if the cap wasn't air tight for a reason - perhaps to let it breath?
