DT-55 300hrs
This engine has always been hard to start after sitting a while. Now it won't start at all. Recently had to replace fuel hose owing to cracks in primer bulb.
1. Spark is OK and filter is clean
2. Filled portable tank with new gas and added StarTran
3. Purged fuel hose and re primed
4. Engine turns over nicely but starts only when carb intake is sprayed with carb cleaner.
5. Engine runs OK for a few minutes then starts to cut out.
6. Pumping primer bulb restores normal operation, then cuts out again.
7. Is fuel pump failing, or new primer bulb too large, or jets clogged?
Replacing fuel hose was a real challenge as the hose barb of engine-side fitting is smaller than tank-side. Aftermarket hoses are same diameter at both ends. Purchased new fittings from West Marine and an on-line store and they did not work. One would not permit gas to flow through fitting and the other did not fit well, so it leaked fuel and got air in line. Finally went back to original fittings which required making up a new fuel line.
