  • 2003 dt 225 stalls at idle

Have 2003 dt 225 on a gradywhite offshore 242. Bought last year. Starts great idles for several minutes on warm up then stalls. Starts right up and runs strong and fast all the way. When i go back to idle or slow speed to anchor, go slow down canal or similar activities it stalls. Also temp seems to run cool. 90 and 85. Could something be wrong with thermostats? Is it running too cold and not burning fuel /oil mixture properly at low speeds? Could an injector be clogged? Don't know. Can the idle be raised it idles around 500 to 600 rpms. Is there an electronic component or sensor that could be bad? How about the fuel pumps? Anyone else have this problem? Please help. Not only annoying but dangerous when breaking anchor close to bridge in fast tide. Would be greatful for any advice.

    Thanks

Might have the throttle position sensor checked and adjusted.

I have a 2002 DT225 and had the same issues. Last year after I had the power head redone (blew a cylinder bent the rod), she would stall at low idle. All season I messed with the idle and it just got worse all season until I could not start it at all. My mechanic has been running a lot of testing to eliminate problems and he seems to think it is the STATOR coil. $680.00 part. Ordering it today keep fingers crossed.

        Dt 225

I have not attempted to fix the problem because i had to replace prop seals due to fishing line in it. I also bought all new plugs which i am going to install and then check into the other possible issues. I took it out for my first bass fishing trip, 6/7/10. Caught and released 5 very happily. On the way back in the temperature alarm would go off. I shut it down and restarted it. This happenend on a limited ocasion in the past. But this time it kept re occuring at all speeds. The water coming from the pee stream is cool but i was told that this does not matter because it comes out of there before it reaches the heads. The top and side coverings of the motor were cool to the touch and did not seem warm. I was told that these motors often have a temp sensor problems. New sensors are $ 110 so that wont kill me, but blowing the motor will put me out for good. Can a temperature gauge that shows the actual temp instead of a just an alarm going off be installed? Has anyone else had faulty sensors and provide advice? I read on 1 blog that suzuki offers a free resistor that hooks up that corrects the problem. Interested in hearing from any one else with this issue.
