suzuki shiftin to reverse

When my 200 DT200 is firts placed in the water I can use the reverse with out any problem, ones I run in the water for an hour or two the reverse does not want to engage any more, and if I try to force it in gear the gears make moise, is there any adjustments I can make to the shifting linkage to correct this problem.

Remove shift cable from engine and shift engine by hand to see if shifts ok, shift control box to see if it shifts ok. Check gearcase oil for water or metal in oil.
