99 dt140 cdi problem

I am working on a 99 140 hp suzuki. Would not start bad fuel, cleaned out entire fuel system. The high pressure pump red wire has power all the time, key on or off but won't run unless I supply ground to the pump. It appears that there is no ground on the black/red wire from the cdi.I am not sure if the cdi unit is bad or not although it seems that it is. I am a mechanic but I have no manuals or test equipment for this engine. Am new to this forum and I would appreciate any suggestions or help.

Check wire between CDI and pump make sure good before changing CDI.
