bad cdi or something else? 1990 150 super six

This started out as a intermitant issue.I would turn the key and have no warning (beep). No beep, no spark. If I took the battery cables off overnight I would get a beep until I tried to start. Then it was gone again. The one day on the water just using my trolling motor i gave it a try and it started!! Motor ran like a top for 2 months. Now it does not matter what I do I cannot get a beep and I have no spark. Took it to a guy and he said cdi has power coming in and none coming out. I have never heard of this on a suzuki 150. The part is listed as NLA (no longer available) does the cdi have to be on the motor to be tested? I need help

Never seen it but could be possible, yes it would have to mounted to test.
