removal of gear case

trying to put in new impeller in a 1987 dt 75hp suzi but the gear case wont come off it will come down about 3inches then stop what am i doing wrong .would appreciate any help by the way im new at this kind of thing so be kind.also im in auss.

Have you disconnected the gear selector from the top underneath the carbs?

thanks for reply got the job done as u said. but for those who might want alittle more imfo on this on the dt75 1987 there is a rubber grommet on the right side of the cowling surround behind the grommet there is a nut undo this nut fully (but dont take off) get a screwdriver behind nut and shift bolt as far as it will go ,it wont come out all the way the gearcase will now slip down and off.hope this will help someone ,as it frustrated the hell out of me
