  • 2007 DF150 No pwr after half throttle

Looking at buying a boat with a DF150. Problem is tach is not working. But of more concern engine starts and idles perfect. Acceleration to about 32 mph (no tach working) is about half throttle and smooth, engine still running good, after that no more acceleration.
Is there a limiter or something that won't allow engine past a certain rpm if something is wrong. Boat ran perfect three days before on a first test run. And the tach worked during first run.
    Any help is appreciated

Without know what RPMs your talking about, it's difficult to say what's wrong. Any fault that causes the ECM to limit RPMs would limit it to at least 3000 RPM, some faults will limit the RPMs more severely. Unless you have a fairly light boat with shallow draft, I'd think you're doing more than 3000 RPM at 32 MPH (assuming the speedo is correct, which is a crap shoot in itself). As a comparison, my boat with a modified deep V and T-top, requires slightly over 4000 RPM to cruise around 30-35 mph, as measured by the GPS. But if your RPMs are maxing out at say 4000, then you may need to adjust the throttle cable, or you're way over-propped on a heavy boat, or who knows? You don't mention any alarms or fault lights being involved, so it's difficult to say. Fix the tach so you can diagnose properly. Or at least, have the owner pay to hook up to a computer to pull down any stored fault codes and go from there. Otherwise, pass on that boat and look elsewhere.

its a 238DLV and there were no alarms or any lights flashing any code. Will have the tach fixed and have a mechanic put the computer on it and see what she says.
      Thanks for answering

Okay, well, the boat is similar to mine, yours probably weighs a little less, and has a shallower deadrise, and shallower draft. Mine has a draft of 14", so it's pushing a bit more water. Mine weighs around 2200 lbs empty without motor, but the figures I gave you in the previous post are with a full fuel tank of 60 gallons, and two on board with gear, so probably displaces close to 3800 lbs in that configuration. What prop is on your DF150? My DF150 has a SS 3 blade 16x18.5, max RPMs full of fuel and two on board is 5800. With just me and 1/2 tank of gas, it'll top out around 6000 RPM. If it turns out that it is over-propped and the motor just can't turn any higher RPMs because of that, then you really need to reduce the pitch, as you're straining the motor in that situation, and will reduce the life considerably.

Have you popped the top off and checked the air intake/filter? Sometimes birds build nests in them, especially a boat sitting for sale, and the air restriction gets noticed as the engine wants more air. It happened to me once, good luck!

Have not been back in a while but have found this problem.
The inside of my fuel line was collapseing. The liner in the fuel line from the tank to the bulb had seperated and at higher rpm's was starving the motor. So much for ethanol resistant lines.

              Fuel

Do yourself a favor and try to run non ethanol fuel if at all possible. It is a buck more a gallon but in my opinion well worth it.
If I am in a situation where I have to run ethanol fuel, it is only with ethanol fuel treatment.
              Good Luck

+1 with Stamas31......ethanol-free gets harder and harder to find, and wherever it is that you live, might not be available at all, but check out this site for possibilities Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada
