  • Advice on extended warranty needed...

I bought a new boat and had my new engine fail with only 3 hours of use. Suzuki wouldn't help, but my dealership is buying me a new motor. While on the phone with the dealership, he informed me that Suzuki has a cashback program going on and that I would be getting $500 back. I wanted to apply this to an extended warranty for an additional 3 years, but he said that I already get 3 years and that these engines just never fail. He said that I really didn't need the warranty unless I intend to keep the boat the full 6 years.

I will be using my boat in saltwater almost 100% of the time, and very well might keep the boat 6 years. After cashback, the warranty would cost me around $750. Any advice?

In australia they give 5 years warranty on new motors but for 750 it sounds like it would be ok just read the fine print and see what is covered . i don,t think corrosion is covered. how many hors do expect to do a year

      Extended Warranty

I have 2004 Df 140s with 1600 hours on them . The six year warranty was 3 years with Suzuki and 3 years with ???. I had good response at 4 1/2 year exhaust manifold corrosion problem but poor response at 51/2 year with same problem with other engine. For only $500 I would take the Warranty since my repairs were $1200

        Warranty

I just purchase a 2009 Suzuki 140 that has 60 hours on it. It came on the 22 foot Hewscraft Ocean Pro ET. I learned along with the three year warranty there was also another 3 year warranty that is transferrable! For $25 I submitted the bill of sale of the boat, invoice of the motor and sent it to Suzuki. That's a heck of a deal since I purchased the boat used also. The boat also has a 10 year transferrable hull warranty from the factory. It's a lifetime warranty to original owner. It's well worth it in the event that you want to sell the boat/motor someday and is a great selling feature....
