We went out today and the motor ran fine (2004 DF225) for a couple of hours. After anchoring for 3 hours we were preparing to move to another spot. Starboard engine would start and immediately die. I could advance the throttle about 10-15% and it would start in neutral, surge a bit and then run at the advanced throttle position. However, it would die almost immediately when I throttled down and tried to shift it in to gear. Port engine was fine the whole time. Any suggestions on where to start?

Your problem could be the Idler Control Valve. -
Thanks for the input. I replaced all the filters today and still have the problem. I'll remove the IAC tomorrow, swap it with the port engine and let you know what happens.Comment

Just wanted to let everyone know that the problem was the IAC valve. I swapped them between the two engines to verify it as the cause. These are a bit pricey at $230-300 on-line, but cleaning it didn't help so I had no choice.Comment
