Was out yesterday and starting having an issue with a 2009 DF 250 and was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on where I should start to look. Motor is under warranty but wanted to see if I could sort it out before putting the boat on the trailer and waiting for a mechanic to deal with it. Info is as follows:
Boat: 2009 Judge 27 CC
Motor: 2009 DF 250 with 320 hours
Symptoms: Went out to dinner on the boat. ran fine on the way there. Motor shuddered a little then shut down just after getting underway headed home (no alarms sounded). Drained the bowl on the water separator. No apparent water in the bowl, but it was getting dark, so I'm not 100% on that. Went ahead and put the spare filter on just in case. Fired the motor mack up and it idled fine for about 15 seconds then shut down again (no alarms sounded). Looked at the filter bowl and it was dry (no fuel or water). Pumped the ball until the bowl filled and the ball was hard. Restarted the engine and it ran fine at idle for about 15 seconds. Ran it up to about 150 RPMs in neutral for about 10 seconds and everything seemed fine. Returned to idle and put it in gear but it wouldnt get over about 2500 RPMs. Returned to idle and it shut down again shortly after (no alarms sounded). Checked the primer bulb and it was soft. At that point I called a buddy who came and towed me home.
It was too dark to do anything more at that point so I left it alone for the night and will take another look this evening. The fuel has been treated with Startron every time so I don't think its an ethanol issue. The boat holds 110 gallons and I last fueled about 10 days ago (around 40 gallons) and ran the boat a few times between then and last night with no issues. Sounds like a fuel system issue to me but not sure where to start as this engine is fairly new to me.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
