Left mufflers on engine

I left the rabbit ears on my DF 175 4 stroke.
I went about 1/2 mile and the engine dropped rpms suddenly.
I did not get any alarms. I could start the engine but could not increase rpm or it would die. Then it would not start. When I got it home it started but the engine dies when I try to increase rpm.
I'll be bringing it to my mechanic on Monday but was wondering if anyone had any insight to if I might have damaged the engine or if there is a reset code not mentioned in the service manual.

a couple of thing seem a bit 'odd" if the flusher was still attached, why the over heat did not sound, and how the hell the flushers stayed in place when running in the water.
