Is it burning oil excessively? If not, I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. If you have high oil consumption after your first 100 hrs or so, or what you consider excessive smoke, then by all means, have it checked out. But I'd get it broken in a little first. I wouldn't be worried about a puff of smoke on startup.Mike

DF150 smoke on startup.
Hi i appreciate this was some time back but I'm wondering if this problem resolved it self??. I have a df150 doing exactly the same thing. Intermittently blowing smoke on startup. It has 60 hours on her and has done it pretty much since it's first service. Otherwise runs brilliantly.

It might settle down, but I have a gut feeling it will get worse over time. Sometimes oil will still get past the rings on a new engine and may need more time than normal to bed in. The oil might be coming from a valve stem stem seal who knows, I have pulled engines down that have been burning heaps of oil and found no wear in the bores, hone marks still there, rings and ring gaps fine, valve guides and seals fine. Keep an eye on it and make sure the dealer knows. If it is still smoking after 120 hours I would ask the dealer to check the combustion chambers with a bore camera and see if it is rings or valves.
