  • Configuring df115 to Lowrance Hds/nmea

    Hi all,

I have purchased lowrance Suzuki interface cable to connect my 2010 df115 to HDS. It seems to be working OK except one thing. When I configure the interface and set year to 2010 and model to df115 it instantly defaults it to 2012 df140. And it does it instantly' e.g. I'm not turning the power off or even exit the screen. I change model to df115, click 'yes' when asked if I want to change the model, df115 stays for a second than reverts to df140. I can see all the data though, temperate, rpm, fuel, etc and the value seem to be OK, e.g. fuel rate is 0.9 l/h on idle.

Interface software version is 2.5.0, it also says below its model 3. HDS software is latest for gen 1.

I have no clue what causes it. The only thing is that the dealer told me I also need ep85 storage, which I don't currently have... Could it be the reason? Never understood why I need ep85 anyway add it seems to be working OK, apart for that glitch...

    Thanks

    Hi there

I have a DF115 with NMEA2000 network with the Suzuki intface, linked to 2 HDS units.

Firstly, the dealer is wrong about you needing the EP85 storage device. This is absolutely incorrect. The Suzuki interface cable has the capability to store the required fuel data. I do not have it on my network and i can guarantee 100% that you do not need it, it is completely unnecessary. Total waste of money. Unfortunately some dealers dont know much about this stuff at all and give bad advice.

Regarding the problem with the interface setup, i believe that you have a faulty interface cable. It is possible that it might be the software on the cable, or it may be hardware. Either way, it should not be doing what you have described, and it is not your fault. Get the dealer you bought it from involved, and tell them you want it replaced.

Have some update from Lowrance - posting in the case somebody bumps into the same issue.

Apparently, the new 2.5.0 software is set up to read the year/model from the engine ECU. Since my DF115 uses the same ECU as DF140 it reads it as DF140, so this is expected behaviour. So, to summarise, new software is not designed for the user to configure year/model, it reads it straight from the engine and overrides the user input instantly (exactly what is happening).

      Hope it helps

Interesting! Thanks for that, very useful information. good work.

Still, it makes you wonder why the interface setup screen still includes the engine hp selection drop down box, hey! Doesnt exactly correlate with the advice Lowrance gave to you! But, who are us mere mortals to make such awkward observations forthe software gurus at Lowrance!
