tachometer hookup

I would like to add a tachometer to my 2003 df15 engine.How would I hook up a teleflex model intended for outboard application?My df15 is manual start.

Best option is to install a rpm/hour meter on engine like a ENG-METER-4C-02 Maintenance meter, it has it's own battery and just wrap signal wire from meter around spark plug wire. Other wise you would have to put a battery in boat and install a toggle switch to turn gauge off and splice wires into alternator leads on engine

Thanks for your reply.Do you know what length of cable is supplied with the yamaha unit?I am going from console to engine,approx 12 ft.- ken

No, it is usually no more than 6ft.
