Gents, I just picked up a new project boat with a '01 225. The engine has a blown head gasket, with one cylinder that looks badly scored (and the piston is in rough shape). I plan on replacing the whole engine and not attempting a rebuild.
The question is, other than the same year/model, is there any other engine that would plug directly into my current wiring harness. The wiring and the console are so nice and neat, I would hate to mess with it. So I plan on getting an engine that will just bolt on, and plug into the same setup that’s already ran to the transom. Anyone know if this is possible? A hp range or range of years that will work with my current setup would be great. Thanks!
