I have a '84 2 horse that I cobbled together with parts from a '88. The flywheel and coil are from the '88. The flywheel has a 1 and 2 that are near the spark timing area, but I need to know where it should be firing. Right now it fires between the 1 and 2, but I'm pretty sure it's retarded by the way it runs. Where should it be?
For those who know these things, my motor originally had a flywheel with the magnet on the inside and a coil inside the flywheel. The flywheel and coil I had were from a later model externally mounted set-up. Needless to say there was some "customizing" involved to make it work and it does run, just not well. These were free motors someone was going to throw away that I decided to make a runner out of for my little dinghy. I'll have many left over parts if anyone needs them. I have one extra powerhead and two lowers after assembling my unit.
