    1. Low battery warning comes on in GPS unit (sometimes not all the time)
    a. Hadn’t done it since changing fuse and installing perko switch, until recently.
    2. Perko switch was left on but nothing running.
    a. Low battery came on after 5 mins
    b. Ran for 10 mins went off
    c. Came back on and shut off gps, shortly after (10min) we turned off the motor went to turn it back on and nothing happened. We turned everything off waiting a few mins and tried again. It started.
    d. Looking back I don’t think the trim tabs were working after this start. And when I first got the boat I did have a number of times nothing would happen when trying to start, I would push down the throttle and that seemed to be the trick.
    3. Repeated 2.c and it cranks for half and sec and stopped and would not crank or even make a sound when turning the key, then code 4-2 started.
    a. Changed out the fuses didn’t help
    4. Got towed in and hooked up battery charger, charged for several hours and the trim tabs started working and the motor would make a slight sound when trying to start.
    5. Took to my shop man and he first said the armature was no good, so I took the trip down to see myself, we saw that on three panels between two of the groves there were pen head size indentures, there was also a single one about ¼ rotation around the armature. Overall, he was saying he wasn’t getting enough pop when applying power to the starter.
    6. However, when we took the brushes off, two of them were stuck in the back position (the grounding brushes) Im looking for any advise, the cost of replacing the brushes, armature, and starter all together are very different, and given I seemly had other issues, I don’t want to pump money into “treatment” I want to find the “cause” and “cure” it all.

I'm sure starter did get hot for low voltage cranking and could have damaged armature, still need to test charging system when get starter repaired.
