1990 dt6 recoil spring

Hi

I am brand new to this. It took me since last night, just to find where to post my question.

Has anyone out there replaced the RECOIL SPRING in any model close to the 1990 DT6? One end of the spring is placed in a slot in the housing and the inner end of the spring is placed on the starter reel.

Every time I try to assemble it, it pops on me.

Any tricks, special tools or ideas?

Also, does anyone know what kind of lube goes onto the spring or into the housing. Assuming that's done after assembly, thru that small opening/port in the housing.

No tricks, the starter springs are a pain, just patience and time. You will get it. Be sure you put the spring in the right direction and after in, prewind for the starter rope.
