Hi all,
While out on the water, a week or so ago, I ran into an issue where the engine wouldn't accelerate past, roughly, 2200 rpm. It will start and idle well but when i advance the throttle is bogs down and quits. It sounds as though it is running out of gas.
Here is what I have done so far.
-Compression on all 4 cylinders is 117 to 119. Lowest being #3 (bottom starboard). #3 also took a couple strokes to reach that level.
-New plugs gapped to .039
-Carbs removed, disassembled and all jets/orifices cleaned and blown.
-Carbs re-installed with new gaskets.
-Fuel tank removed, drained, cleaned (in and out) and re-installed.
-All fuel lines are new, blown out and fittings cleaned and re-installed with teflon tape.
-Fuel/water separator replaced (no contam).
-Engine cover foam completely "brushed" to remove any loose pieces that may be sucked into carbs.
-Engine area completely cleaned to remove any possible contaminants.
Right now it seems to be running well on the water muffs.
There seems to be a lot of "soot" coming from the exhaust. When I run it out of the water the prop blades actually get black spots on them from spinning through the exhaust gases.
#3 spark plug also appears to have an excess of "oily fuel" on it compared to the other three. I swapped the coil from that cylinder with another and it didn't seem to make a difference.
Sorry for the long post.
I wanted to cover everything I've done to avoid repeating.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Mike
