Have a 1993 DT75 motor that ran fine at full throttle when I tested it out with the previous owner, bought it and hauled it home. Next day, dunked it in the lake, started just fine, went 1/8th mile and started chugging. I can only get it to sustain about 3500 RPM and then if I squeeze the fuel bulb it takes off again but only goes about 50 yds and chugs. I think it needs a new fuel pump diaphragm kit as the old diaphragms looks "old" and not the tight, fresh black look I would think they should have. Any comments about my fuel problems at this point? I have cleaned the fuel filter on the motor, it wasn't horribly plugged, but did have particles in it, and added a filter up at the tank end with a clear plastic one. Fuel barely flows thru this new filter which made me think fuel pump weakness. Help!

Does sound like a fuel pump, if you pump the bulb and the motor picks up.

Update - still need help. I did replace the diaphragm kit and fuel connector parts from the tank to the motor. Now, when I am out on the lake, it starts easy, takes off, and then just dies. If I disconnect the fuel line at the motor and release the "pressure" in the line, reconnect and crank on it, it takes off, runs all day and never skips a beat. But if I try to pump the bulb, thinking that it is starved for fuel, my problems start again and I need to disconnect the fuel line, bleed the pressure, and reconnect. I can only do about 4500 rpm as this is the consistent level which it will run, any higher and it chugs out and dies. I've added the ethanol buster at 2x the recommended rate for only the first 24 gal tank-full, but have only run 1/2 the tank so doubt I have cleaned up the engine yet. What else should I be looking at? floats sticking in the carbs? jets plugged? give in and take it to a marine mechanic? Thanks for any other tips.

Sounds like it's flooding out, carbs flooding or diaphram in fuel leaking into crankcase.

Fuel pump diaphram has a hole in it or not seating properly.

another new symptom I have is if I lift the idling lever on the throttle control at the steering wheel console, and bring the RPM's up to 4000 rpm, the motor kicks into gear. Is this a linkage adjustment problem or broken piece inside the throttle control and idling mechanism? (this is all done while it is in NEUTRAL.)
