This side up for transport, or storage

Does anyone know why this warning label is on the DF40 4 stroke outboard motor cover? What are the consequences of storing it in the opposite direction? Model year is 2009.

That is if the motor is removed regularly and stored on its side. You need to store it as it indicates or you will have oil leak into the cylinders and out the carburetor.

This engine is fuel injected - no carburator. The reason I asked the question is because the oil is getting diluted with gas and overfilling the oil level of the engine. Trying to find the root cause for that.
