    Oil in water DF40

I have recently torn apart a 2004 Suzuki DF40 looking for the culprit in a water in the oil situation or better put oil in the water situation. In my case other service marine shops replaced the head gasket and surfaced the head. Still oil in the water. I had the head and the block surfaced and now that little glimmer of light from a backlit flashlight between the block and head on the lower port where the oil circulating hole is now is dead flat black. It was .0025 warped from the heat because of the sand, salt and sediment that winds up in the cooling jacket most densely packed around the number 3 and number 2 cylinder water jackets. I have since talked to another seasoned mechanic who showed me a third filled handibag of white sand and sediment he cleaned out of a Suzuki DF50. These motors are prone to loading up with crap in the cooling passages. He spent 4 hours routing and cleaning his thoroughly.

The water pumps are fine and compression good. If you find oil and water mixing put a thermo gun on the heads and check for excessive temps indicative of clogging, particularly in the lower cylinders. If you wait too long something warps from heat. In my case it was the block (probably the head also but that was addressed by previous mechanics) Live and learn. I hope Suzuki does something about the load up problem. It's not that uncommon.

The shaved and leveled head and block did not solve the problem Milky cream is exiting the prop area so oil is mixing with the water and leaving the engine. Does anyone know of the solution. Looks likea cracked block or head internally out of sight. One other marine service place has the identical problem on a 2002 50hp Suzuki. They cleaned and leveled the head but oil is still exiting the outboard. Strange.

Carefully examined the oil pan and intermediate housing under the powerhead. Nothing unsuual, gaskets very nice. Looked at the midsection and nothing wrong. I have totally dismatled this boy and can find no evidence of oil infiltration. i suspect an oil passage near a water passage has corroded or split and is creating the problem. The oil is very creamy indicating a good mix happening like oil squeezing into a water passage. Oil pressure in these motors is 40psi and water pressure is 20psi. As a mechanic told me that is why the oil pan is not getting water (dipstick is not creamy) Oil is forcing its way into a waterway with pressure. So oil is contaminating the water and not vice versa. But where?
Suzuki should cover this annoying defect. We've go 16 hours examining the dam thing.

Can I ask you to start a new thread please. This one is over 7 years old!!

The DF140 and the 50 are totally different motors so what apples to one may not apply to the other.

I would also ask you to provide further details such as engine hours, and when you first noticed this problem. What other symptoms were there? Is the engine running well or ??? What maintenance has been done?? How do each of the spark plugs look when you checked them?

Tell us what investigations/checks you have already done to find the problem, tell us everything possible, otherwise it becomes like "pulling teeth" and that gets very frustrating and will discourage people from responding.

I will start a new thread . But this original thread is in fact about the 2001 DF 40 , which is identical to my DF 50 . I was hoping some of the original posters might see this and respond . One shop inspected but hesitated to disassemble . Speaking to 3 other shops feel the block is compromised and a common issue to the 2001 era 50 . Plugs are identical , normal looking by my inspection and also by two shop techs. They have ruled out a head gasket . The motor was purchased from a older gentleman couple years ago with less than 5 hours freshwater , I'm up to 100 salt water use . Short blocks are obsolete I'm told
