DT25c loss of power?

ok, we have a 1989 DT25c we were running high RPMs and the engine backfired it immediatly shut down to about half speed. Now the engine will not rev to full RPMs it also is hard to run and low idle, you have to pull the choke out a bit, we had a "marine mechanic" replace the fuel pump, water pump, rebuilt the carbs and new plugs. that didnt change a thing. Does anybody have an idea of what it could be, any suggestions help....THANKS

if your engine has a reed valve then it might have been damaged by the backfire

also do a compression test then do another one after squirting oil in the cylinders and see what the readings show

ok thanks, what should the compression test read? Around 110?

check your manual, engines vary in there compression
