  • Question on collision damage

Hubby's boat got "rear-ended" by a boat twice her size, while she was moored at our marina slip.
Visual damage we can see are about 3" of the stb motor skeg was broken off, and the prop has been bent. Unsure if she might have additional damage, so what should we have the marine repair shop look for and should the prop be repaired or replaced?

We have 2007 twin 200's on a 28' Idaho. Both engines were at full tilt and out of water when she was hit. She's too big to trailer around to get different estimates, so it looks like we will need to use the repair shop at the marina. They seem to do good work, but like all "marine" repair shops they are high priced.

This is my hubby's baby, so we want to make sure she is repaired to how she was prior to impact damage.

Sorry guys....me bad, originally entered twin 225's, but they are twin 200's with stainless steel props

    Thanks for any advice!

You can have the propellers repaired, however you should have the lower unit propeller shaft thoroughly inspected.

Did the other boat have insurance or do you have insurance....... .most likely prop shaft will be bent .

what about the transom was that bent or cracked as well ?

yes, we both have insurance, but the boat that hit us really didn't want to file a claim and wanted to take care of the damage...but looks like we will need to file a claim.

So far we have been told we need a new prop/shaft and lower end, the motors will not rise/lower etc. and yes transom was damaged.

file a claim that's what you pay insurance for as there could be some damage that is not apparent as yet and end up costing the................................ old arm and a small portion of at least one leg .
