Replacing Thermostat on a DF250

I suspect the thermostat on my 2004 DF250 is stuck open (making oil). I have never replaced one before. How hard is it to do and what do I need to watch out for or know before I attempt this?

if the thermostat is stuck open you will see a lot of water out the prop right away when the engine is cold, normally its just a little then after the engine is warm you see more water coming out.

(making oil) oil has nothing to do with the water passages or the thermostat so if you are seeing oil its something else causing it.
