only air blown by pilot water hole

After first trip with my 2007 DF40 I checked the pilot water hole and found it only blowing air (not hot) . I stopped the engine trimmed it up and down and started again. Now only a little water was coming out and you could feel also air blown out.
Next day I tried again and a strong jet of water was coming out. Happy problem solved itself but I don't understand it. How could it blow only air, when water intake was under water and impeller is ok? Does anyone have an idea?

There is a engine breather next to the water outlet so you sure , the water tell tale was not working and you are mistaken .

Hole in the tell tale is small it may of been blocked ? but if water still pumping engine would not get hot .

Other than that no idea

I had the same last week, Mitch, you'r right it was engine breather and tell tale was blocked.
