  • DF 90 will not keep running on first start

My DF 90 ( 2003 ) always starts and runs ok on the 2nd try. If I pump the bulb up and and turn the key and wait for the beeps to stop for the diagnostic test for the system. I turn the key to the start position and start the motor, the motor will start and then run for a couple seconds and then STOP. I then turn the key off and then turn the key back on to start again the motor will start and run and keep running ok. If I got out fishing and shut the motor off it and then just use the trolling motor for an hour or so and then start the motor back up it starts up right away on the first try? Weird as it seems that the fuel is not getting to where it needs on the first try of the day? Fuel filters are ok? The fuel pump does run and everything seems normal? Some talk of the fuel separator? As far as I can tell everything is ok as on the 2nd start everything works ok? I do not see any trends on this issue? normally everyone says their DF 90 up to the DF 140 starts right up the first time?

I do believe that they have a "cold start" setup, that speeds up the idle a bit and gives them a bit more fuel, I guess that could be playing up somehow?

OK, but funny that others do not have the same issue? I can look into a cold start set up and I can also open the throttle a bit on the first try, but on the second try it runs fine? Just seems to me that there is not enough fuel someplace, like the fuel pump is not getting enough fuel to the proper place to feel the injectors the proper amount of fuel to keep it running and then on the second try it has the fuel needed to keep it running. Seems simple if I could just find out what is going on. I hear of most of the other owners say the motor stats right up with no issues???

Sound like the fuel pressure regulator is not holding rail pressure to the injectors, the reason it starts after you have been using it is because the rail is holding pressure, I wouldn't worry about it until you have to crank for a while before it starts.
